Call Me Retro

Oh by the way, look what I bought this afternoon!

I got an email from the Kogan website telling me these were selling cheaply @ $15! Naturally, being a little inclined to be a bit (just a little bit) of a shopaholic and an impulse spender (confession time...), I bought one! Hoping to get either a purple or a green one. In my defence (I swear I'm not guilty Your Honour!), their main selling point, aside from the fabulous colours (ooh pretty!), is that they aim to reduce the radiation emissions when talking on your mobile phone. Or apparently from your ipad/tablet as well! (Seriously, who walks around with an ipad or tablet on their ear??). I think they are a great idea, and whilst the jury is still out on how much radiation emits from your phone (or apparently your ipad), I would rather avoid the risk, and as a bonus, look completely 'retro cool' while using it. Although, there is a possibly I won't use it in public for fear of looking like a 'retro tool'.....

But hey! If The Hoff uses one then I can only hope I will look as cool as him! I will post a pic of me using it and hopefully looking very retro too....ahem...cool!

Tuesday Bluesday

As my post heading suggests, today was a bit of a bluesy day. At least it started off that way. Woke up with a killer headache that I just couldn't shake, made worse by the fact that it was a gloomy-looking day outside, and made even worse by the fact I have an assignment due date looming (coupled with zero motivation to do it). To combat my sour mood, I decided to take a couple of nurofen and turn to my dear friend who never fails to boost my mood, 'Mini' (aka my Taylor GS Mini guitar). She and I both wanted to have a go at producing a cover of one of our most loved songs "Skinny Love" by the wonderfilled band, Bon Iver.

After a few (hundred...) takes, we finallly came up with a cover that we were reasonably happy with, and to my amazement I was also headache free! Could be that the nurofen was actually doing its job for once, but I'm putting it down to the healing hands of music.

If you'd like to check it out, you can check it out HERE :) .

So with my improved mood, I then headed to the school to pick up my darling girl, Indi. She was quite chipper; a good sign of a happy day at school. Given that it is a public holiday here tomorrow for Anzac Day, I decided to head to the video shop (do people still call it that? Or am I just old-fashioned?) to see if we can get some movies to get us through the day tomorrow with as little boredom as possible (more rain predicted). So we got some movies and then found ourselves being drawn to the hot chip shop (funny how that happens!). With our hot chippies and movies and knowing I managed to cover a song I really like, I caught Indi's mood and started to feel quite chip-per myself (I refuse to pardon myself for that pun!).

Now we are both sitting on the couch, bellies full of chips and salt, and watching The Grinch (well I'm blogging and watching...women are great multi-taskers!).

I'm going to sign off for now with the hope that you have had a nice Tuesday, however you have spent it.

If you do happen to check out my cover, thank you for watching! Feel free to leave me a comment or subscribe to my channel, or even give it a thumbs up (or down) :)

Until next time,

I wish you peace and music :)

What I'm Watching

Just wanted to add a little note....I have added a couple of sections to this page. Up the top there will be a link to my YouTube videos, and down the bottom of the page (after the blog posts) there will be links to some of the amazing artists I'm following on YouTube. Please check them out, you won't be disappointed :~).

Peace,

Jay

Technical hitch...

Turns out, I couldn't finish off the end of my blog as there was a bit of a technical hitch where I was no longer able to type in the text box anymore! Could be because I am using a tablet at the moment rather than my usual laptop. But nevermind, here I am again :~)

I'm going to leave you now with a link to my YouTube page if anyone wants to check it out. But please remember I am only an amateur and still have a lot to learn. As much as we all would love to be 'rock stars', I don't have any delusions that my music will take me in that direction, but it is something I'm very passionate about nonetheless, and I will continue to record and upload songs as I go along :~)

Here's the link to my channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/Jaybird8206?feature=mhee

Feel free to give me a thumbs up (or down) for any of my songs, and feel free to make a comment as well. If you feel like subscribing as well, that would make my day :~)

I hear my guitar calling  my name right now so I hope you all enjoy the rest of your Sunday and I will be back to blog again soon enough.

Peace,

Jay

Yes, I'm still here!

Hi all,

I'm not sure if anyone actually follows my blog anymore, which would make sense given that I have been very slack with updating it! I thought I would amend that today and say hi and give you a bit of an update.

Feeling inspired after reading my sister's blog, I think I'm going to shift the focus of my blog to focus a bit more heavily on my music. Although I am only an amateur in the field, it is something I am very passionate about and that I love talking about. So much of my posts now will centre on my music projects, artists that I love and want to show support too, and updates on any new song-writing projects. I'll also include a little update about what has been happening in my life, if anything there is anything interesting enough to share :~).

So, what have I been up to since my 'New Years' blog post???....I have been trying to get through my last Semester of Uni (yay, there is a light at the end of the tunnel after all!). I have two subjects this Sem. and then I will have finished my degree! Where it will take me when I graduate, I have no clue, but I am excited to see what the future holds for me.

Another big life event crept up on me last month...I turned 30! Yes, the big 3-0! I headed into it feeling very anxious (why I dont know), but I survived it thanks to my wonderful family, and my fabulous sister who threw me a kick-ass "Almost Got Talent" themed party! I also headed into my 30's feeling disappointed that I hadn'tb achieved the things that I had set out ot achieve, but I came out the other side realising that I have achieved more than I realised. I am an independent, strong, woman, who has been raising a daughter on my own, I have put myself through University and am about to graduate, and I have overcome aspects of my shyness to do things I never thought I would or could. I have shared my music openly with people and let them see a side of me that I always kept hidden. I have been rediscovering my passion for song-writing and have been writing original songs and recording them (albeit in an amateur fashion) and have even uploaded some to YouTube. Just under a year ago I also rediscovered my passion for playing guitar, and picked that up again and have been self-teaching myself to play again. I also lashed out and bought myself a new guitar which I am very much i love with (who needs a man haha). I have been recording (on my iPhone lol) myself covering songs I love, and have even uploaded some of those to YouTube as well. My dear friend and I (she also shares my passion for guitars and music), have even been brave enough to attend some music lessons with the Stars & Idols music company here in our local town. So, when I look back, I realise that whilst I may not have achieved the things I had planned to achieve, life had other plans for me and set me on a different path where I was able to achieve other goals I never thought I would have the chance to achieve. So this is why my blog will now focus more on my musical pursuits :~).

What else has happened so far? I have achieved some progress towards my weightloss goal, though it is a very bumpy road at times and sometimes it is hard to stay on track. But I know I will get there slowly.

My beloved daughter Indi is now in Year 3 at school and is doing extremely well so far! Because she is now in Yr3 she will also have to face the dreaded NAPLAN testing; a cause of much undue stress and anxiety for the kids and parents alike. So we'll see how that goes and I will update you on that Im sure.

Well, I think that is about it for the updates for now. I'm in the process of editing this page so watch this space and hopefully I can turn this blog into something that is visually and intellectually stimulating, and failing that just plain entertaining.
